Scots Pine

Scots Pine

The towering Scots Pine can grow to become the grand old gentleman of the woods. Mature trees grow to 35m and can live for up to 700 years. Originating from the Scottish glens, it is one of only three native conifers, and our only native pine.

In England, Scots pines were typically planted around farms as windbreaks, and clusters of pines were used to mark the landscape to help travellers get their bearings in poor weather. As at Jockeys Cap???

Scots pine timber is revered as one strongest softwoods available and is used in the manufacture of telegraph poles, gate posts and fencing. The tree can also be tapped for resin to make turpentine. Dry cones can be used as kindling for fires.
