‘The Complete History of Richmond (Abridged)’ – A Community Play

From February to September 2021, the Georgian Theatre Royal will be producing a Community Play drawing together the local community and involving as many people as possible in all its varying aspects – performance, set build, costume creation, marketing, writing, research, technical – including those who come to simply enjoy the finished production.

This inclusive production will engage with participants of all ages and abilities. It is not just about the final production; but about the creative process and collaboration to make a piece of theatre. Participants will work alongside professionals, learning new skills and honing talents, so do join in for a fabulous experience. Take on as much or as little as you want.

Most Community Plays are based on stories from the community’s past, taken from historic moments in time. Richmond has many delightful stories and legends and the plan is to try to tell them all! Depending on how many participants join in, and in order to best employ all ages and abilities, the show will be a series of sketches, with music and song, and will be aimed at a family audience.

Using the style of The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) and Horrible Histories, the production will be colourful, fast-paced and entertaining. It will be performed on stage at the Georgian during the first week of September 2021 to a public audience.

Anyone interested in participating should get in touch with the Theatre Manager, Clare Allen:
